water conservation tips

Running Faucet into Hands

🌦️ Why Water Conservation Matters Now

Water is essential to everything we do—from cooking and cleaning to growing food and sustaining local ecosystems. But during dry seasons and drought conditions, our supply becomes more limited. Right now, many areas across Washington, including several local watersheds, are experiencing reduced snowpack and rainfall.

Summer months can more than double typical household water use, mostly due to outdoor watering. This increased demand puts added pressure on an already strained system.

By conserving water, we not only reduce stress on our community’s supply but also help lower monthly bills and ensure clean water remains available for future generations in Carrolls and beyond.

🚿 Smart Habits to Save Water Every Day

It’s easy to start saving water at home and outdoors. Here are some smart, practical ways to make a difference:

  1. Skip half-full loads. Wait until your washing machine or dishwasher is full before running it.
  2. Fix leaks fast. A single drip can waste more than 3,000 gallons a year.
  3. Shorten your shower by 2 minutes. That’s up to 1,500 gallons saved annually.
  4. Water early or late. Avoid watering your lawn during the heat of the day to reduce evaporation.
  5. Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways or sidewalks.
  6. Upgrade your fixtures. Install low-flow showerheads or faucet aerators for long-term savings.
  7. Every simple step adds up. Start small, stick with it, and make each drop count.
